Brian Berry was born in Tiverton, Devon and has a history degree from Bangor University and a MSc in European Policy from Bristol University. He is the Chief Executive of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) the leading trade association for SME and micro building companies across the UK. Brian started his career as a teacher at The Charterhouse Square School in central London. He then moved to the Royal Institution Chartered Surveyors (RICS) developing his career in policy and affairs focusing on all issues affecting the built environment both at the UK and European level. This included a three-year secondment to live in Brussels where Brian was the Head of European Policy. In 2007, Brian joined the FMB as the Director of External Affairs before becoming its Chief Executive in 2012.
Brian is a member of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC); a member of the Government’s Retrofit System Reform Advisory Committee; a Director of the Consumer Code for New Homes; and a Director of the National Retrofit Hub. He regularly provides commentary on construction issues for the media. Brian is also a Freeman of the City of London; a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA); and a Trustee of the Tiverton Almshouse Trust in mid Devon which provides affordable accommodation for elderly people.
