Our mission at Youthbuild UK is to
|
|
Promote engagement with young people to combat social exclusion, through the development of construction based support services, and celebrate young people's success
We will achieve this by |
|
- Engaging with organisations and employers to encourage them to offer work opportunities to young people to combat social exclusion
- Supporting and advising organisations and employers to set up projects, skills training and employment schemes to combat social exclusion
- Disseminating and sharing best practice throughout the UK. Promoting policies, at national, regional and local levels, that will assist in the growth of "youthbuilding" projects
- Constantly seeking new initiatives to empower socially excluded young people to develop their employability skills and to become involved citizens
- Holding an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of socially excluded young people

What we do
| |

 | |
- Youthbuild UK (YBUK) works with a variety of organisations from the public, private and third sectors to provide training, qualifications and employment to disadvantaged young people in the construction industry.
- This ranges from pre 16's at risk of or excluded from school, young offenders undertaking construction training in lieu of community service, traditional apprenticeships to employment led vocational qualifications for adults.
- YBUK is particularly keen to support under represented groups in the construction industry (ethnic minorities and women) to embark on "Youthbuild" programmes. To encourage young people to succeed YBUK holds an annual awards event - The Young Builder of the Year - with two categories; still in education aged 14 to 16 years old and in employment aged between 16 and 25 years old. The emphasis is on distance travelled, not just qualifications gained. The 2010 awards will be held at the House of Commons on 20th October.
- YBUK works closely with ConstructionSkills, NHBC, NHF and The Apprenticeship Agency in promoting "Youthbuild" projects.
- At ground floor level YBUK works with individual councils, housing associations, training providers, social enterprises and contractors to create projects, large and small, that can help disadvantaged young people in their local communities to undertake construction work and training that benefits themselves and the community.
- Over the last 10 years YBUK has been involved in over 150 projects ranging from self build housing schemes to refurbishments and ongoing maintenance. Many of the 5000 plus young people involved have gained a range of industry recognised qualifications as well as practical experience and generic job skills.
